Info For Brides The Art of Photography Series Photoshop Series

Interest in photography is growing at an unprecedented rate due to the digital revolution. The number of people taking photographs is greater than ever; and getting prints takes all of an hour or less at the local shopping center.

All this is great!  So with digital technology making photography so popular and easy - Why do you need a professional photographer?

Three important reasons:

  1. An artists perspective, experience and knowledge
  2. Highest image quality from professional equipment
  3. Unique final products
An artists perspective, experience and knowledge.

We all take snapshots to record events in our lives. But very few of these snapshots would be considered unique artistic photographs (see the 'Art of Photography' series under the above 'Photography Classes' link).

We once had an opportunity to talk to some friends whose daughter had just gotten married. For this event several family relatives served as the official photographers. We witnessed nearly a thousand photos contained in several albums. In all the photographs, there were few if any that would have been classified as an image of artistic value - having emotional impact and exceptional beauty through optimum subject composition amd lighting. It was also clear than the images had not been optimized in the darkroom for color, dynamic range and contrast.

Creating artistic images with unique emotional impact, requires a knowledge and experience in composition, lighting, image processing software and printing technology. Professional photographers spend years mastering skills essential in these areas.

Highest image quality from professional equipment

Highest possible quality in image resolution, color fidelity and dynamic range are the requirements for a beautiful photograph. Our clients have commented on the vivid detail, beautiful colors and sharpness of the images we create. These characteristics are only possible by using cutting-edge professional equipment yielding consistently high quality. There is simply no comparison between the image quality from a consumer camera costing a couple of hundred dollars and a professional camera system costing thousands of dollars. Most state-of-the-art professional lenses alone cost more than most consumer cameras!

In addition, the potential for improving the image using post-capture processing technology offers today's professional with capabilities not possible a decade ago even in the most sophisticated color labs!

Unique final products

Along with today's state-of-the-art digital capture and processing technologies, the display of images on color-calibrated computer and HDTV monitors has changed forever the standard for viewing the final image. The colors possible from current electronic displays greatly exceed the colors possible from any printed media!

However, prints are required for most professional assignments. The different ways for creating printed albums is astonishing. Photo-books represent perhaps the most beautiful and artistic way to display a collection of prints. Current inkjet prints are superior - both in color fidelity and archival characteristics - compared to film based prints.

Creating state-of-the-art prints requires professional knowledge in color control, printing technology and equipment. Producing a high quality print suitable for a 36 x 48 inch wall portrait requires much more knowledge than creating a 4x6 inch snapshot print!
